About AEC
Founded in 1990, the Alternative Education Center continues to provide
exceptional educational opportunities in a unique nurturing environment.
In conjunction with The Calvert School in Maryland and The University of
Nebraska, AEC is able to provide a U.S. accredited Middle and High School
program.
The Alternative Education Center works on a performance
based schedule, which allows students and families to individualize their
study program, accelerate graduation or make up for lost time.
Students are encouraged to develop the concepts of self-discipline and
accelerated achievement, while a five to one student to teacher ratio
provides ample access to discussion, guidance and support.
The Alternative Education Center has a rolling admissions
policy and is open year round. Students can start at any time and take
holidays when they are needed or convenient for the family.
If you have any questions about our programs, feel free to
contact us at the phone numbers or Email listed on the contact page.

Diploma Program
Earning a high school diploma from the Alternative Education Center's
UNL Independent Study High School Program is earning a diploma from one
of the most respected independent study programs in the world. The
flexibility of our independent study program allows students to earn
their diploma at any time of the year.
Accreditation
Full accreditation and strict curriculum standards means graduates of
AEC's ISHS Program are positioned to not only enter American
universities, but to succeed in them.
Our Program maintains accreditation from the North Central
Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement
(NCACASI), the Nebraska Department of Education and the Commission on
International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA).
Why is accreditation important?
Accreditation ensures that quality standards are met in courses and
administrative policies.
Increased performance.
Accreditation focuses on school improvement and enhanced learning for
all students.
Transfer of credits.
In addition to raising student achievement, accreditation eases the
transition of students as they move from one accredited school to
another.
Access to programs and scholarships.
Accreditation can also benefit students as they apply for federal grants
and scholarships or pursue admission to colleges, technical schools, or
military programs that require students to come from regionally
accredited schools.

AEC Pace Setters
Our performance based courses and course management systems were
designed for convenience, so accessing courses, submitting assignments,
checking grades and receiving feedback are quick and simple. You
can complete assignments, courses, and semesters at the pace you set.
If you are looking to make up for lost time or need extra time on
individual areas, you set the schedule.
Honor Roll
All diploma students who have earned grades of B or higher in every
course completed between February 1 - July 31 and/or August 1 - January 31
are eligible for the Independent Study High School honor roll, provided they
have completed a minimum of five courses in each time period. Students
are notified of the high school's honor roll twice a year
K.O Broady Scholarship
All students are eligible to apply for the K. O. Broady Scholarship.
The K. O. Broady Scholarship Fund awards a limited number of scholarships
annually on the basis of financial need, scholastic record and availability
